Sam is a free-lance Guitarist in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. When he began high school, Sam became interested in jazz and was introduced to the music of various jazz guitarists such as Joe Pass, Jim Hall, Wes Montgomery, and Barney Kessel. These became some of his primary influences in the development of his own style.
Sam has performed/recorded with the contemporary Christian group Tocar and appears on Tocar's CDs "Maybe" (1998) and "Alright" (2000). Sam was featured on Dave & Daver’s CD “Jazz Lines” (2004 release). In 2004, he recorded a CD with the Sam Walker Trio entitled “The Sam Walker Trio Plus One.” It is a mix of original music and standard jazz fare. In late 2011, he was involved in the recording of a collection of original tunes by jazz trumpet player Jim Morse with bass player Brian Mulholland and drummer Jaime Reyes.
He has performed in the pit orchestra for numerous musicals in the DFW area. Sam also was a member of the Univesity of North Texas' Jazz Singers in 1999 and participated in the recording of their CD "Yesterdays." It was during this time that he had the opportunity to play with Norah Jones, who was also a member of the group that year.
Sam has also performed/recorded with String Theory Manouche, the Dallas Jazz Orchestra, the East Texas Symphony, the Phares Corder Orchestra, pianist/vocalist Melanie Skybell, University of North Texas "Two O'Clock Lab Band", just to name a few.
He currently teaches as an adjunct instructor at Tarrant County College South Campus and at University of Texas at Arlington.
